McAfee has updated their response to the problems caused by the 5958 DAT "false positive error" with a new 5959 DAT virus definition file. All users are recommended to update their systems immediately to the 5959 DAT file. McAfee has separate fixes for "home" users and "corporate" users. McAfee claims that less than one half of one percent of their user base has been affected by the "false positive error."

McAfee Stock Price is down slightly and McAfee has apologized in this blog for the virus definitions update 5958 DAT that has shut down untold thousands of computers around the globe. The " false positive error" deletes the svchost.exe file and causes the computer to reboot continuously or shut down completely and BSOD or blue screen of death on restart. The svchost.exe file is a critical component of the Windows Operating System. According to McAfee, systems affected are Windows XP SP3.
